Q: Why is WGN America changing from a superstation to a cable network?
A: On December 15, 2014, WGN America began the process of converting from a superstation to a cable network as it transitions to become a destination for high-quality programming to better serve the interests of our national audience.
Q: Where are “WGN Midday News” and “WGN News at Nine” on WGN America?
A: As a result of the programming changes we have made to serve the interests of our national audience, “WGN Midday News” and “WGN News at Nine” are no longer seen on WGN America. However, all WGN-TV newscasts continue to be seen locally in Chicago, as well as worldwide through WGN Chicago’s website WGNTV.com and the WGN News apps on mobile devices, computers and Internet-compatible televisions. Unfortunately, league rules prohibit video streaming of the sports segments but you may consider ChicagoTribune.com/Sports or the official team websites for Chicago sports news. During the transition period, the WGN Morning News may be available to some viewers from 5:00 a.m. -7:00 a.m. ET.
Q: Will I still see Chicago sports on WGN America when it converts to a cable network?
A: As a national cable network, WGN America no longer has the rights to carry local Chicago sports games nationally but WGN Sports telecasts remain on WGN in Chicago as well as stations in parts of Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. The same games also may be available outside the Chicago area on the “NBA League Pass” package at NBA.com/LeaguePass and the "MLB Extra Innings" package at MLB.tv.
